Ultimate stats and our first funding

Posted on June 6th, 2012 by Mark "Spike" Liu
It's been a while since we've used this blog for general Leaguevine updates, but now that TD Tuesdays has finished this will be the blog's new focus.

The first thing we need to announce is the arrival of Ultimate statistics. We've been working with Chad Boulay, the awesome creator of Ultistats for iPhone to develop a new HTML5 stat taking app for Ultimate. Anyone (fans, players, coaches, staff, etc.) can log onto http://ultistats.leaguevine.com from any smartphone browser and instantly take stats for a game. These stats sync to our website instantly, giving real-time box scores for the games, as well as up-to-date aggregate stats for the teams and players.

The AUDL has been using this stats software to some extent and we showcased this software at the recent USA Ultimate Nationals. Here are a few of the box scores this app generated from Nationals:

We hope you give this a try at your next game.

In other news, we have been accepted into a tech incubator called Iron Yard Labs. They're giving us $18k, office space, legal services, design work, mentorship, and some part time MBA interns in exchange for 6% equity in our company. The biggest perk may be the demo day that they are holding at the end of the program where we will pitch to a room of 350 investors in hopes of jump starting our first round of funding.

This program starts June 11th and runs for 13 weeks. Earlier this week we moved to Greenville, SC and are now working out of an awesome shared office space with a bunch of other ambitious web startups. After the program we'll return to Chicago and likely set up shop in a shared office space in the west loop. Hopefully we'll have the funds to hire a few people at that point too!

What this means for Leaguevine is that our company is not going away and we're going to keep going at this at full speed for a long time. It also means that we will be broadening our horizons to increase the scope of what Leaguevine is. We will begin opening up our platform to non-Ultimate players and begin working on stats platforms for those sports as well. Ultimate remains close to our hearts, though, so we'll constantly be improving our Ultimate stats offering.

Wish us luck in this new program!
